The last jacket you'll ever buy?
If there's one thing we love more than anything else about Norwegian brand, Amundsen, it's that they want you to give their stuff a hammering. This isn't gossamer-thin gear for ultra-runners -– it's tough, long-lasting outdoor armour for people who are on the mountain day-in, day-out. This tasty new Vidda jacket is made from Ventile, a densely woven organic cotton that was first developed in the mid-20th century. There are a lot of myths around Ventile's history, but what isn't in doubt is the incredible performance of this premium fabric. It's silent, windproof, highly water-resistant, and more breathable than just about any other shell fabric. It doesn't have any coatings or chemical treatments, so it won't wear out with hard use – though it will look better with plenty of dirt on it. Amundsen's gear is ruthlessly tested by outdoor athletes and extreme adventurers, and they say they've never come across a material like it. This could well be the last jacket you ever buy.

Amundsen clothing is named after one of the greatest explorers ever to walk the Earth. No pressure there then. In fact, the company’s co-founder, Jørgen Amundsen, is a relative of the legendary man himself, and the brand’s designs are based on classic styles from the golden age of exploration. Throw in a generous dash of 1960s Nordic ski resort chic and you’ve got a unique range of good-looking kit that’ll get you noticed in all the right ways.
However, there’s nothing old-fashioned about the way Amundsen’s gear performs. Ruggedly built from merino wool and waterproof triple-layer cotton, these are serious expedition-grade garments built for a Scandi outdoor culture – a concept that the Norwegians call ‘friluftsliv’, or ‘open-air life’. It’s the idea that time spent enjoying the freedom of the outdoors should be a core part of your life, since it enhances just about everything else. Now that’s something we can all get on board with.
